Newcastle United fans will be delighted to see the footage to emerge on YouTube of their striker, Chris Wood, finding the back of the net twice on Monday.

The 30-year-old target man is currently away on international duty with New Zealand and played in their emphatic victory on Monday night.

Wood played 75 minutes in the game against Fiji which saw the Newcastle striker find the back of the net on two occasions (via Transfermarkt).

The goals saw the 30-year-old become New Zealand’s all-time highest goalscorer with a tally of 30 goals across his international career.

Wood’s first goal came in the first half as he found himself on the end of a cross to head the ball home from close range and the second a neat right-footed finish inside the box.

New Zealand have one more game to play – on Thursday – before Wood is able to return to his club who are currently training in the warm weather of Dubai.

TIF Thoughts on why fans will be thrilled…

It’s fair to say that the striker certainly hasn’t lived up to expectations on the goals front since joining from Burnley in the January transfer window, having only found the back of the net once for the Magpies.

However, these goals could now give him the lift needed to really start finding the back of the net on a consistent basis at St James’ Park. Especially as he’s been described as a ‘confidence player’

Both of the goals were well-taken and showed that he doesn’t just hold up the ball and pose a threat in the air.

The Toon look fairly safe from relegation now, and with the pressure reduced, maybe Newcastle fans will see an improved side to the New Zealand striker.
