Tottenham Hotspur ace Oliver Skipp is closing in on extending his stay in north London with a new and improved contract.

That is according to the reliable Spurs journalist, Alasdair Gold, who was speaking on the latest Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

Who should start alongside Bentancur?

Skipp has been out of action since January with a pelvic issue which Antonio Conte believes he will return from after the international break.

But the 21-year-old has been a prominent feature in the Spurs XI this season having racked up 18 appearances in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

Since Skipp’s injury, Spurs have added Rodrigo Bentancur to their midfield so it will be interesting to see who will be the Uruguayan’s midfield partner when Skipp does make his return to full fitness.

And discussing the potential return of the 21-year-old, Gold revealed the positive feeling around Hotspur Way regarding Skipp putting pen to paper on a new deal:

(50:00) “But the positive news is that it does appear that they’re coming towards a very positive conclusion on his new contract. New bumper deal, which he deserves because he’s had a real breakthrough season, obviously a terrific season with Norwich and then he’s come back to Spurs showing that he’s a Premier League midfielder as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

This will be a huge boost for Conte who has expressed his admiration for the young Spurs midfielder already since arriving in November.

And at just 21-years-old, it is apparent the Lilywhites feel he could become a big part of their future with the characteristics of a captain already hinted at.

With the youngster receiving such high praise already, a new deal should benefit both with Skipp earning a higher wage and Spurs securing the services of one of their young prospects.
