Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Aston Villa could target Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez is now 35-years-old and has featured 27-times for Atletico Madrid this season in La Liga whilst scoring nine goals and assisting three times, according to Transfermarkt.

Suarez has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, as Steven Gerrard will reportedly monitor his situation in the summer. Gerrard has already shown that he can attract a different level of player at Villa compared to previous managers as he was able to lure in Philippe Coutinho in on-loan in January from Barcelona.

Despite the Uruguayan forward being somewhat a bit-part player in Spain this season for Atletico, Pete O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT that he still has world-class potential, and would be a great option for “someone like Aston Villa.”

“I think you’ve got to say, Luis Suarez, on his day, is still a world-class operator. He’s maybe not getting any younger right now, but on a free transfer, I think he’d still be a good signing for someone like Aston Villa,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s comments…

With Steven Gerrard already acquiring the services of former teammate Phillipe Coutinho, a move for Luis Suarez to Villa Park seems even more believable. However, Suarez is not getting any younger which has led to him being used sparingly by Diego Simeone this season having appeared as an unused substitute twice in Atletico’s last five games.

Although, when he has featured, he has proven that he still has an eye for goal as he currently has a record of a goal every 169 minutes, (under two full games), as per Sofascore.

Suarez could add some valuable experience to the Aston Villa dressing room, giving advice to a young attacker such as Jacob Ramsey, as well as offering his support to a current striker like Ollie Watkins who is still only 26-years-old.

Gerrard has already shown that he isn’t scared to get rid of players if he feels they aren’t suited to the way he wants to play, in the form of Matt Targett, so by bringing in a new striker when they already have Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, perhaps this transfer could be an indication of a move away from Villa Park for one of the duo, unless he opts to use Suarez as more of an impact player like Diego Simeone has at times.
