Many Rangers fans will likely be furious after seeing footage of Connor Goldson getting fouled in his club’s most recent game.

In their last Scottish Premiership outing, the Gers had to settle for a point after drawing at Ibrox. Strikes from Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala gave Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men a lead at half-time, but they were ultimately pegged back level by the final whistle.

However, beyond the frustration of the result, one incident in particular will be cause for anger amongst the Rangers faithful.

Indeed, in a clip shared on Twitter by fan page Four Lads Had a Dream – calling the moment ‘horrendous’ – defender Goldson can be seen stretching for a ball which he just gets to, before being slid in on late by Motherwell’s Joseph Efford.

Efford catches him high and late with his studs and it’s clear to see Goldson is left in pain by the obvious foul. On another day, it could have been seen as a red card, but the winger was only booked for his offence.

TIF Thoughts on the tackle on Rangers’ Connor Goldson…

It certainly is one of those fouls right on the border of a red card when you consider that he comes in late, and his studs end up catching Goldson high up the shin and slid across his leg.

However, as the SPFL does not have VAR at the moment, there was no opportunity for the challenge to be reviewed, so the referee had to go on his first judgement.

Will Giovanni van Bronckhorst succeed at Rangers?

To make things worse, at that stage, Rangers were up 2-0. There’s little doubt from that position, that had Motherwell been reduced to just 10 men, Van Bronckhorst and co would have clung on to all three points.

Had they done so, they would now be just a point off Celtic at the top of the table.
