Rangers will be fuming over the latest footage to emerge from their game at the weekend, where they were able to seal a narrow 1-0 win.

The footage in question showed an opposition player throwing himself into a challenge on Scott Arfield, only to be awarded a yellow card.

Should this have been a red card?

Aberdeen’s Vicente Besuijen certainly went into the challenge with his right foot high off the ground as it caught the Rangers man after the ball was played.

Yet, the foul was only deemed to be worthy of a yellow card by referee John Beaton, with the incident happening right in front of the Ibrox dugout.

Thankfully for the Gers, they were able to wrap up all three points on the day as they maintained the pressure on their city rivals and Premiership leaders.

However, Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have hoped for a more straightforward affair at the weekend with a big Europa League fixture coming up on Thursday.

TIF Thoughts on the challenge…

The challenge occurred late on in the game when Van Bronckhorst’s side already had the three points in their grasp, so it didn’t make too much difference come full-time.

However, there will certainly be a feeling of injustice among the Rangers supporters having seen these replays of the challenge, as the Aberdeen man will remain eligible for their next game.

Despite the Dutchman landing his challenge high on Arfield’s right foot, the 33-year-old was able to finish the game, which is probably the only positive they can take from the incident.
