Podcaster Patrick McGilp has claimed that James Forrest could see his Celtic career come to an end this season as he has been ‘poor’ during this campaign.

Forrest has featured 16 times for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season, but just eight of those appearances have been from the start, according to Transfermarkt.

Forrest has been part of the squad for all nine of the Hoops’ title-winning campaigns in the past decade and is currently enduring his 13th season at Celtic Park, making him the longest-serving Celt.

McGilp spoke on the A Celtic State of Mind podcast and slammed Forrest for his poor displays this campaign in a Celtic shirt.

He said: “I thought Forrest has been poor, I said on here last week, he’s got 10-13 games to save his Celtic career.”

TIF Thoughts on Patrick McGilp’s comments…

Forrest hasn’t been in the best form in the past year for Celtic, as he has an average player rating of 6.70 over the past 12 months, given to him by SofaScore. But due to his commitments to the club over the past 13 years, he is arguably being judged unfairly by McGilp.

The Scottish winger will almost definitely go down as a Celtic legend as he has won nine championships, five Scottish Cups and five League Cups with the Hoops. So just because he has had a season below the norm for his side, it doesn’t necessarily mean he should be axed completely by the club.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou gave Forrest praise after his performance against Livingston on Sunday, which included a goal to secure the victory. He said: “He was a real threat, he took people on. I know he’s still got it – it’s just a matter of him getting a run.”

That may indicate he will get the chances to prove himself before the end of the campaign, but only Postecoglou will know how fragile his Celtic future truly is.
