Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Albian Ajeti’s Celtic career could be over as he has failed to perform in Scotland for the Hoops.

Ajeti has been out of favour this season for Celtic, featuring just seven times in the Scottish Premiership, according to Transfermarkt. Recent reports have claimed he is not part of the manager’s plans at Parkhead.

The Swiss striker signed for Celtic in 2020 from West Ham United for £4.5m despite featuring just 12 times in a year without scoring a single goal for the Hammers.

Jones told GiveMeSport it is “looking likely” that the 25-year-old will move away from Celtic Park in the summer.

He said: “It was a move that I thought would be quite exciting when he first went in, but it hasn’t worked out for him. I think, with the way the Celtic forwards are performing now, it is looking likely that he will be moved on.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…

Ajeti produced some impressive form whilst he was at Basel, scoring 30 goals in two seasons for the Swiss club, which earned him the initial move to West Ham.

However, when he made the switch to the Hammers, it didn’t quite go to plan after he featured just 12 times before making the move to Celtic. His move to Celtic could potentially have revitalised the form that he had with Basel, but things haven’t gone to plan.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou’s style of play emphasises keeping the ball on the floor, with the squad playing a fast-paced and attacking brand of football. Ajeti is a 6ft striker whose main strengths are heading, so he perhaps doesn’t quite suit the system that Postecoglou is trying to implement. So, the Swiss may have to look elsewhere for regular minutes.
