Wolves and Fosun Group must be delighted with summer singing Jose Sa as he is now seemingly worth much more than what they paid for him.

After Rui Patricio left for Roma in a deal worth £10.25m, Bruno Lage’s club went out and bought in his replacement from Olympiacos for just £6.8m.

Since then, it’s safe to say Sa has impressed, with club captain Conor Coady recently telling TalkSPORT (via Molineux.news): “He’s a character, a proper character.

“As you’ll know, most goalies are a bit mad, aren’t they? He’s no different. The good thing about him as a goalkeeper is how commanding he is and how high he is in his positioning.

“We want to play a bit more aggressively, a bit more on the front foot and he is a big part of that.”

In light of his great form, it looks as though his alleged transfer value is beyond what they paid for him, too. Indeed, according to the CIES Football Observatory – which uses an econometric approach to assess the transfer value of professional footballers – Sa is now worth as much as €15m (£12.5m).

TIF Verdict on Jose Sa and Wolves…

During his debut Premier League season so far, only three other ‘keepers – Ederson, Alisson and Aaron Ramsdale – have kept more clean sheets than Sa, who has nine.

On top of that, with the shot-stopper starting every one of Wolves’ league games so far, only the top three teams have conceded few goals across the entire division.

Is Jose Sa a better goalkeeper than Rui Patricio?

With individual and collective stats such as those mentioned, it’s not hard to see why the player’s value stands at double his transfer fee in the scientific workings of CIES.

No doubt, all around the club will be delighted with this transfer. Sa has certainly proven to be worth every penny so far – he could also net the club a tidy profit in the future, too.
