Wolves podcaster Dave Azzopardi has given his thoughts on recent reports that have come out regarding Bruno Génésio.

A recent report from RMC Sport has claimed that Wolves have shown interest in the 55-year-old manager, who is currently in charge of French side Rennes, where he has put together a rather impressive record, winning 29 of his 51 matches in charge (as per Transfermarkt) and putting up a decent fight in Ligue 1, where he currently has them in the Champions League spots.

The report also claims that Wolves aren’t the only club in England that have taken a liking to the Frenchman, with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton having also “already shown interest”.

Azzopardi gave his thoughts on the latest edition of Talking Wolves, claiming that even though Wolves have a manager right now in the form of Bruno Lage, these reports might not be as ridiculous as they might first seem when you break them down.

In what position did Wolves finish in these seasons? Starting off with 2020/21

He said: “Of course, it would be daft for the club not to be tracking different managers. We don’t know, Bruno [Lage] could turn around tomorrow and say ‘right, I’ve had enough’ and go, or he could hit a bad run of form, you never know in football. Things can change overnight, but [a] bit of a strange article.

“So Bruno Génésio, remember that name possibly for the future. I remember a lot of people moaned about this story yesterday, but I do remember last year that articles and the press in Portugal were saying that Bruno Lage was Wolves’ number-one target, and this is when Nuno was doing quite well at the club.

“So it’s always ideal just to keep one eye on these reports just in case.”

Has Lage impressed you with Wolves?

Azzopardi does have a point with his analysis of the situation, because whilst Lage is going well at the club by giving them every chance of qualifying for European football next season and taking them back to where they were under Nuno Espirito Santo, it is always good for the club to have a backup option just in case.

And on top of that, given how trigger-happy they have been when it comes to getting rid of managers whilst they’ve been in charge, with Fosun, you can’t rule out the possibility that they might have a change of mind at some point and decide to go in a different direction.

So whether it be from the club’s standpoint or for the fans watching, it might just be something to keep an eye on in case something drastic happens in the future.
