Football writer Alasdair Gold has said that Joe Rodon will likely leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer – and the club may live to regret it.
According to a report by Football Insider earlier this month, the centre-back is set to quit Spurs after being left frustrated by manager Antonio Conte, who has not offered him a single Premier League minute of action since taking over.
When discussing the player on his YouTube channel, Gold confirmed that he too believes Rodon will go in the summer. However, he suggested that it could perhaps be on loan because it would be a mistake for the club to sell him permanently.
Gold explained: “Antonio Conte has just apparently given a rave review of Rodon’s performance against Austria for Wales.
“And you just kind of think, is his chance gone now, though? This is the thing, with all these games now, pretty much always one a week now, I think we’ll get to the summer and I think Joe Rodon will move on to another club.
“I just hope for Tottenham’s sake they make it a loan, because I think he’s gonna go somewhere and do very well. And if they let him go permanently, I do think they’ll live to regret it, I do.”

It is interesting to hear Gold reference that ‘rave review’ Conte offered after Rodon’s intentional display. Indeed, after Wales recently beat Austria 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier, manager Robert Page claimed the Italian had been in attendance.
He said (via Wales Online): “Well, I know Antonio Conte was watching last Thursday. And rightly so, he was very complimentary about Joe’s performance.”

As Gold explains though, it may all be too little, too late. Considering Tottenham have just nine games left this season and Rodon has not featured at all in Conte’s league plans so far, it seems unlikely that anything will change massively before the end of the campaign.
And so, if Rodon has already made his mind up, it looks as though he could be heading for a summer exit.
