Newcastle United presenter Steve Wraith has been discussing Kieran Trippier and the influence that he can have on players coming to the club.

It’s fair to say that the England defender has been able to make quite the impact at Newcastle since signing in the January transfer window.

In just five appearances for the club, before suffering an injury against Aston Villa, he has been able to grab two goals. Elsewhere, he has performed to such a level that he still leads the team in tackles, interceptions and crosses per match, whilst ranking fourth for key passes per game (via WhoScored).

And whilst he might not be able to do much on the pitch right now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he can’t do anything for the club.

Speaking on the latest edition of NUFC Matters, Wraith believed that the influence of someone like Trippier could go some way to helping Newcastle bring players to the club during the summer transfer window, stating that he will be able to help sell the club to a number of high-profile players.

Wraith said: “He’s been a hell of a signing. And I think he will play a major part in attracting new players. I think there’ll be players in and around the England setup, in and around Champions League teams, who speak to Kieran Trippier, who connect to Kieran Trippier. And they will ring him and other players at the club, and say, ‘what’s it like?’ and he will wax lyrical about it. He loves it, he loves it.”

TIF Thoughts on Steve Wraith’s comments about Kieran Trippier at Newcastle United…

Is Trippier possible captain material?

Of course, the first bit of business will be staying in the division, which after their recent run of form, Newcastle have managed to position themselves very nicely moving away from the relegation zone, but Wraith may well be right with his assessment of things.

Having been willing to move from Atletico Madrid – a side that are fighting for a Champions League place next season and the Champions League crown this year – Trippier must have really bought into the vision that the club are trying to establish, and now he’s able to see what the club is like on the inside.

And if he has the influence that Wraith hints at in his comments, then he’ll be able to sell it to other players who might have to make similar jumps down in terms of club size, which given the funds Newcastle have to spend really could help them when it comes to attracting players in the summer.
