Leeds United majority owner Andrea Radrizzani has sent a message of support to youngster Sam Greenwood following his return from injury.

The 20-year-old is someone that had been struggling to make his mark on the Leeds United first team, only making one appearance before the start of this season in a third-round FA Cup tie.

However, the injury situation surrounding the club at the backend of 2021 provided him with a couple of opportunities to break into the senior side.

Can you remember where Leeds finished in these league seasons? First up: 2018/19

His fourth appearance and first-ever start for the club came against West Ham United in the FA Cup back in January, playing 45 minutes before being taken off at half-time. However, the game wasn’t without its issues for the teenager, as he revealed on his Instagram account afterwards that he had picked up an injury, but noted that he’d ‘be back stronger’.

And coming back he certainly is, as he continued his recovery from injury by playing all 90 minutes for Mark Jackson’s U23 side in their 1-1 draw with their Tottenham Hotspur counterparts on Monday night, even managing to get on the scoresheet with a penalty just past the hour mark.

Taking to Twitter in response to another tweet from @leedsutdacademy which detailed Greenwood’s return, Radrizzani passed on his praise for the youngster’s goalscoring return with a simple two-word message:

TIF Thoughts on Andrea Radrizzani’s comments about Sam Greenwood at Leeds United…

Does Greenwood deserve a chance in the first team?

It is good to see Greenwood, valued at £450k on Transfermarkt, back on the mend and in action once again for Leeds United, even if it is just for the academy side.

Having made some slow progress into the senior side earlier this season, hopefully he’ll be able to carry on that progress and make an impact between now and the end of the campaign.

Especially with a new man in charge in the shape of Jesse Marsch, there could well be some new ideas coming to the fore at Elland Road, and this will be the perfect chance for Greenwood to make his case to be part of the side, not only for this season, but potentially for the future as well.
