Journalist Jordan Cronin has claimed that Newcastle United fans may not see Callum Wilson again this season while speaking on the Loaded HQ YouTube channel.

Newcastle’s number nine has been missing since December when he limped off just before half-time against Manchester United, but the striker has claimed on The Footballer’s Football Podcast (0:40) that he’s hitting his rehab hard.

Will Guimaraes start on Thursday?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, that may not be enough for the striker to get game time this season, as the Magpies have got themselves into a great position to achieve survival, and it may be unlikely that he features if there’s very little to play for come the last few games of the campaign – something that Cronin alluded to.

Cronin has expressed his thoughts on the likelihood of Wilson playing again this season.

He said: “I think with Wilson, you’re probably looking at the start of May, and then you have three games left of the season where you play Arsenal, Manchester City and Burnley.

“So there’s a good chance that you might not see Callum Wilson play again this season, because if Newcastle are safe going into the final three games, are they going to risk Wilson or even a Kieran Trippier, who again is on the same timescale?

“Are you going to risk them players when you’re already safe and you know your objective for the season’s achieved? Probably not.”

TIF Thoughts on Callum Wilson…

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

While Wilson’s goals have been crucial for Newcastle ever since he joined the club in the summer of 2020 – netting 18 in 43 league appearances – his injury record has certainly held him back a lot during his time on Tyneside.

Wilson’s injury-proneness was something that was common knowledge from his time at Bournemouth, and given the club’s new wealthy owners are planning big things for Newcastle, it would not be a surprise to see a big-name striker arrive in the summer, given that they were interested in the likes of Duvan Zapata and Hugo Ekitike in January.
