Manchester United podcaster Mark Goldbridge has claimed that he would take Darwin Nunez over Harry Kane at Old Trafford in the summer.

Kane has been in fine form recently, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in his last seven Premier League games. Kane has been heavily linked with a move to United amid talk of Mauricio Pochettino potentially becoming the manager next season.

Whereas, Darwin Nunez has scored an impressive 20 goals in 22 games in the Portuguese league for Benfica this campaign. The Uruguayan forward has also been linked with a move to United in the summer after impressing this term.

With both forwards being linked with moves to Manchester United, Goldbridge spoke on The United Stand YouTube channel and stated that he would take the £36m-rated Nunez over Kane, given their current circumstances.

He said: “If you offered me Harry Kane, at 29, for £100m, or you offered me Darwin Nunez, at 22, for £50m, I’m going to go Nunez every day of the week. I’d even probably go to £60m for Nunez.

“Kane [is] probably the safer option, but there are issues there – his age, his injuries. Is he really part of a rebuild, or is he just a name to get in the top four?

“Whereas Nunez, he could be here for the next five, six, seven years and still be in his prime. He could become one of the best strikers in the world. He’s part of a rebuild where he’ll grow with us. So I would go Darwin Nunez over Harry Kane, but I’d probably be in the minority, there.”

TIF Thoughts on Mark Goldbridge’s comments…

Kane has been in superb form since the turn of the year and has been a consistent performer for Spurs over the past eight seasons. He has scored 17 or more goals in each of the previous seven Premier League campaigns, scoring an impressive 178 goals in 273 league games.

Meanwhile, Nunez is a 22-year-old striker who has played 131 games in his senior career, scoring 6o goals. Nunez may well be on the radar of many clubs across Europe after his impressive goalscoring record at such a young age, but he is not yet on the same level as Kane.

Given time, Nunez could well reach the stats of Kane, but in terms of having an immediate effect, the stats would suggest that Kane would have a greater impact at United, and perhaps this is the route they should go down this summer.
