Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has shown his praise towards Reds forward Diogo Jota after he has come in and filled Roberto Firmino’s boots at Anfield.

Jota has impressed this campaign for Liverpool, as he’s scored 12 goals in 23 Premier League appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

The Portuguese forward has fit into life at Liverpool well, as in his last 29 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, Jota has received an average match rating of 7.11/10, as per SofaScore.

Hamann, who won a raft of trophies during his time at Anfield, including the Champions League, said that he thinks Jota has been “unbelievable” since joining Liverpool from Wolves in September 2020.

“Jota has been brilliant since he signed,” Hamann explained.

“He’s very reliable. People thought, ‘what happens if Firmino has a rough spell?’, but he came in and he’s just been unbelievable. He sets up goals, he makes goals, scores goals.”

TIF Thoughts on Dietmar Hamann’s comments…

With the rumours that one of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah is going to leave Anfield this summer, their replacement could already be in the building in the form of Jota.

Jota has arguably already taken the Brazilian forward’s place in the Liverpool starting XI, as he has featured more times than the 30-year-old this season, with the latter making just 15 appearances and eight starts in the Premier League, scoring just four goals, as per Transfermarkt.

The Portuguese goalscorer is just 25 years old, so still has time to develop as a player and become even better at Liverpool than he has already shown. So it is no surprise the likes of Hamann are big fans of the former Wolves forward.
