Medical expert Ben Dinnery has given his thoughts on Jamie Vardy’s return to fitness at Leicester City.

It’s fair to say that the Foxes haven’t been at their best this season. Having managed to achieve back-to-back fifth-place finishes and win the FA Cup last season, this year has certainly been one of struggle for Brendan Rodgers’ men, as they currently sit 13th in the Premier League table.

It’s no surprise that their struggles have also managed to coincide with an injury to Vardy. The Foxes’ main goal threat over the years has been out with a hamstring injury since the turn of the year, but it appears as if he is on the mend and closing in on a return to the side.

To kick off this quiz on Leicester City's 2019/20 season, who is the only outfield player to have appeared in all 38 of the Foxes' Premier League games in the 2019/20 campaign?

Reports are suggesting that he will be back to face Burnley in their Premier League tie tonight, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Dinnery claimed that whilst he would be back in the squad, he didn’t expect to see the 35-year-old start the game, and he would instead take his place on the bench with Patson Daka likely to start up top.

He said: “Jamie Vardy will be back for the Foxes. He’s missed around two months with a hamstring issue. He will come straight back into the squad, but I suspect any involvement will come from the bench, with Patson Daka probably leading the line for Leicester.

Do you think Daka will be a long-term Vardy replacement?

If Dinnery is right and Vardy will indeed be part of the side that travels to Turf Moor tonight, putting him on the bench and bringing him back into the team slowly is perhaps the best course of action to take.

Whilst they might not have a lot to fight for in the Premier League given their current position, they do still have the Europa Conference League to play for, which might be the only way that their season can ultimately be judged a success if they were to go all the way.

And given how problematic hamstring injuries can be to footballers, the last thing that Leicester will want to do is lose him for those games, so if they have to ease him back in the Premier League so that he will be all rested up and ready to go when the European games come around, it is a move they shouldn’t really think twice about.
