Leeds United youngster Lewis Bate has picked up another knock during the U23s’ defeat at the weekend, according to journalist Joe Donnohue

The Whites suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat on Sunday against Chelsea and saw the former Blue withdrawn after an hour having sustained a knock to his ankle.

Will Bate become a Leeds regular?

No

No

Bate left Stamford Bridge last summer for the Yorkshire club in a deal believed to be worth around £1.58m, but it was not a happy return to the capital for the 19-year-old.

The midfielder is yet to play under Jesse Marsch since the American was appointed, but did feature in the squad for the victory against Norwich City as Leeds picked up all three points a week ago.

And the potential injury setback will come as a huge frustration for the midfielder, who Donnohue felt put on an impressive display up until he suffered the knock:

He wrote for Leeds Live: “Sharp and alert alongside Jenkins, picking up the pieces on several occasions. Lots of recovering possession, but lacking influence in the opposition half. Substituted on the hour mark after taking a knock to the ankle.”

He was then substituted in the 60th minute.

TIF Thoughts on the injury concern…

This will certainly come as a big frustration to the youngster given he has featured heavily in the matchday squad for the senior side this season.

However, this is now the second game in a row in which Bate has sustained a possible injury issue after he was spotted earlier in the week limping in the youth team’s victory over Manchester United.

Bate has been a regular in the U23s side when he has been available, and with just a handful of games remaining, he will be hoping the injury is nothing serious.

It has been a big season for Bate, with the teenager having made his debut in senior football, and it would be a shame if his campaign was to come to a conclusion due to injury.

And given Mateusz Klich sustained an injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the 19-year-old could have been a possible option for Marsch after the international break.
