Leeds United took the difficult decision to sack iconic head coach Marcelo Bielsa recently, replacing him with American gaffer Jesse Marsch.
Marsch has made a name for himself as a product of the Red Bull stable. He was promoted to RB Leipzig after an impressive stint in charge of Red Bull Salzburg, but didn’t last half a season in Germany before he left the role by mutual consent.

After settling into life in Yorkshire, The Athletic’s Phil Hay went to meet Marsch for an in depth interview. He then talked about his experience on The Phil Hay Show podcast, saying the following: “This strikes me is a very big second chance for him. This is his second opportunity to manage a big club in a major European League and ok, Leipzig are at a different competitive level. It’s Champions League over there, but it’s extremely high profile at Leeds and it will be very high profile for him in the States, it will be high profile for him in the UK.”

On first glance, it’s difficult to compare the two clubs, given that he was promoted to Leipzig for his achievements and had Champions League football to contend with and now finds himself in a relegation battle. Granted, there’s still pressure being the Leeds manager, but the Champions League is a different kettle of fish.
He’s still in the Premier League though, so it is a chance to prove himself on a big stage. So you’d have to agree it is a second chance at a decent level for Marsch after his disaster at Leipzig.
