Premier League injury expert Ben Dinnery has said that Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has an illness which could spell the end of his season.

It’s safe to say the England international has had a rather stop-start campaign up to this point. Indeed, a fractured toe kept him out for a significant amount of time, meaning he has played just nine times in the Premier League.

He has also failed to score since returning, struggling to find his best form for the Toffees as they too have had their issues on the field.

Now, to make things worse, Dinnery confirmed Calvert-Lewin has caught an illness and this could mean his season is effectively going to be a ‘write off’.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin be an Everton player next season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Talking on the Premier FPL Injuries YouTube show, he was asked if the player has the virus, to which he replied (14:17): “Yeah, illness. So yeah, that’s unfortunate. You know, it’s been, the season it’s been a bit of a write-off.”

He went on to say (15:27): “It’s just this culmination. And, you know, this succession of injury and illness [Covid] that, you know, effectively is going to write off his season.

“Because, even during this period that he has been back, you know, he hasn’t looked the player that we are used to seeing. Certainly not on top of his game.

“And you know, he could be talking five, six, maybe even seven, games to play himself back in. And, you know, by then that’s it, the season’s over.”

TIF thoughts on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Everton…

With Everton struggling down at the bottom of the table – only out of the relegation zone thanks to goal difference (albeit with games in hand on their rivals) – the club certainly need their striker to start firing again.

Last term, he scored 16 Premier League goals in 33 games and was a key part of the team’s attack with a further three assists. This season, his three goals, all scored in the first three games of the campaign, shows just how badly his form has been derailed by fitness issues.

If Dinnery is correct in his belief that it would take Calvert-Lewin another five to seven games to get back up to full fitness again, things really do not look good for the Toffees.
