Journalist Tom Barclay has compared Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi with former Chelsea captain John Terry.

Marc Guehi signed for Crystal Palace in the summer and has been a mainstay in the side under Patrick Vieira having featured in 28 Premier League games whilst chipping in with two goals, according to Transfermarkt. Guehi is part of the youthful approach that Vieira has opted for the campaign, alongside Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher who have also featured over 20 times.

Crystal Palace have been in good form as of late as they currently find themselves unbeaten in four Premier League games. During this period they have conceded just twice, whilst keeping Manchester City out in their most recent game at Selhurst Park.

Guehi came through the youth academy at Chelsea, and whilst speaking to GIVEMESPORT Tom Barclay made the comparison between Chelsea legend John Terry and the young Palace defender.

“He’s only been improving. He’s forming a good relationship with Joachim Andersen. He’s never been blessed with rapid pace, but his understanding of the game has really helped him on that front. I’m not surprised that John Terry is his idol. When you consider the similarities, John Terry didn’t have a lot of pace but his reading of the game nullified that problem,” Barclay said.

TIF Thoughts on Marc Guehi and Tom Barclay’s comments…

Marc Guehi has been impressive for his new side this season, being awarded a player rating of 7.4, 7.2, and 7.1 in his last three fixtures in all competitions, as per Sofascore. He has a high passing accuracy of 87% this season in the Premier League and 92% passing accuracy in his own half, which has allowed Palace to play out from the back.

The defender is just 21-years-old and has now been likened to John Terry by Tom Barclay, which shows just how impressive he’s been as John Terry was nominated to be named on the Premier League Hall of Fame list.

And, his impressive performances this season have been recognised by England manager Gareth Southgate, as he has been named in the recent England squad.
