Aston Villa could land soon to be free agent Franck Kessie in the summer to help bolster Steven Gerrard’s midfield options.

Gerrard managed to work his magic in January and bring in midfield maestro Philippe Coutinho on loan, however, he will reportedly cost £35m to buy in the summer, which could see Villa turn their attention to Kessie of Milan, who is set to be a free agent in the summer and has been linked with the club recently.

Should Villa sign Kessie?

If Villa could pull off this signing, it would be a major coup given that according to the CIES Football Observatory – a company that has developed a scientific way of measuring a player’s transfer market value – Kessie still has a market value of up to £25 million, despite being out of contract in the summer, such is his ability.

Interestingly, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Aston Villa are ‘serious’ about signing Kessie.

Kessie is a fine player that’s been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona in recent times, which should come as no surprise when you see the sort of numbers he’s putting up with Milan, with 30 interceptions and 32 players tackled this term, while also showing he’s a threat at the other end of the pitch with five goals in the league.

TIF Thoughts on Villa potentially getting Kessie for free…

For Kessie to still have a market value of £25 million despite just a few months left on his contract should be almost enough for Villa and Gerrard to realise that if possible, they should be going all-in for him as he’s a perfect player that can be effective at either end of the pitch.

After the smart January acquisitions of Lucas Digne, Coutinho and Calum Chambers, this would potentially top the lot if Villa’s board could hand Gerrard someone that’s been a regular for a Milan side fighting in Europe and for the Serie A title over the last couple of seasons.
