Noted transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the future of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.

Torreira was something of a regular during his first two seasons at Arsenal, but clearly didn’t find himself in Mikel Arteta’s plans and has found himself shipped out on loan in back-to-back seasons, firstly to Atletico Madrid and this past summer to Italian side Fiorentina.

He has been a regular in Florence this season, racking up 25 starts in all competitions and putting in impressive numbers for La Viola, ranking fourth in the team for tackles per game and joint-second for interceptions (per WhoScored).

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

And it appears as though those numbers have been enough to have a major impact on what his future is going to look like going forward.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Here We Go podcast, Romano claimed that his time at Arsenal may well be in the process of coming to an end as he noted his current loan club appear to be pulling out all the stops in order to take him to Serie A permanently.

He said: “Talking about players that will leave the club, Torreira – Fiorentina are pushing to sign him, there is a buy option, €15m.”

Will Lucas Torreira be branded a 'flop' for his time at Arsenal?

This is pretty much the ideal situation for Arsenal – they didn’t want him at the club, have loaned him out in order to try and get him performing elsewhere in the hope that someone will buy him, and it looks as if that is going to be the case.

And that money could end up coming useful for Arteta in the summer transfer window. Reports are suggesting that they will be looking to spend big in the summer as they aim to take another step forward under the Spaniard, and every little bit that they can recoup from the deadwood in the side will help the budget.

Let’s just hope that whoever comes in to replace Torreira will end up having more of an impact under Arteta than the Uruguayan did.
