Noted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Bukayo Saka and his future at Arsenal.

It’s fair to say that the 20-year-old forward has been going from strength to strength in recent seasons for the Gunners and England.

At club level, he has racked up 21 goals and 27 assists, being one of the standout players in Mikel Arteta’s revolution at the Emirates Stadium whilst also becoming a regular feature in Gareth Southgate’s England team, scoring four times for them.

Given his production levels, it’s no surprise that the club are looking to tie him down to a new deal, especially if it means keeping him away from the prying eyes of clubs like Liverpool who have been interested in him.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

Speaking on a recent video on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that the club appeared to be in the final stages of putting together their contract offer for Saka and they will be presenting it to him very soon, whilst also noting that Saka himself appeared very happy at the club.

He said: “At the end of February, I told you that Arsenal were prepared to discuss a new contract for Bukayo Saka. Now, Arsenal are preparing the contract proposal, so they are entering into the details.

“It’s not going to be discussed now in March, it’s going to take some time, so in the coming weeks, probably end of the season. Arsenal will meet the agents of Bukayo Saka to discuss the new contract.

“The player is happy with Arsenal, he’s super happy with Arsenal life, so he’s prepared to stay at Arsenal for a long time. Of course, Champions League football will be a key factor to continue together, but Arsenal’s plan seems pretty clear – they want Bukayo Saka to sign a new deal as soon as possible.”

Judging by Romano’s comments about Arsenal and Saka, it seems as if a deal is looking more likely than not.

Although, it is interesting to see Romano make the point about the Champions League, something that Arsenal are not guaranteed at this stage of proceedings, because Saka has spoken about his desire to play in the Champions League before, so that might play a part in how things are moving forward.

Whilst he might be happy to stay at the club now whilst they are making progress under Arteta, if they aren’t able to maintain that and drop out of the running for it, it might affect their ability to keep hold of him at some point in the future.
