Alasdair Gold has been left impressed by footage to emerge on Twitter of a block from Tottenham Hotspur’s Matt Doherty in their victory at the weekend.

With Spurs holding on to their 3-2 lead deep into stoppage time, the Irish defender was able to block a shot from Bernardo Silva inside the box.

Should Doherty be sold in the summer?

No

And it was the reaction of the 29-year-old that caught the attention of the Spurs correspondent as he celebrated his denial of a shot on target for the Manchester City man.

Antonio Conte brought Doherty on for a seven-minute cameo at the Etihad Stadium for Emerson Royal, having started the game prior against Wolverhampton Wanderers (via Transfermarkt).

With three huge – and perhaps unexpected – points on the line for the Lilywhites, Gold shared his delight for Doherty, who has had a tricky time since joining Spurs.

“Love this. Made his contribution,” Gold said on Twitter.

TIF Thoughts on Doherty’s future…

The future of Doherty has been questioned over recent months, with his time at Spurs not going exactly as he would’ve hoped since arriving in the summer of 2020.

Doherty has featured sporadically for Conte since the Italian arrived, but in recent weeks, he has been awarded two starts in the Premier League as well as a full half against Leicester City (via Transfermarkt).

With over two years remaining on his Spurs deal, we think that amid reports of Conte looking to improve the right wing-back position, Doherty could be a good option to move on in the summer given his lack of game time on the whole.
