Kieran Devlin has praised Celtic summer signing Giorgos Giakoumakis after his impressive hat-trick on the weekend.

Giakoumakis had started just six league games before his latest outing on Sunday, which has largely been down to the outstanding form of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giakoumakis’ own injury troubles.

Will Giakoumakis become a Celtic cult hero?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The Greece international arrived with a big reputation having netted 26 goals in 30 Eredivisie matches and Celtic fans may well have seen a glimpse of what he’s capable of as he netted a perfect hat-trick, which included an 86th-minute winner against Dundee.

Devlin took to Twitter to claim that while Giakoumakis has his flaws, he could easily become a cult hero in Glasgow, saying: ‘Giakoumakis is a flawed player, but he also works tirelessly hard and, as yesterday highlighted, is capable of producing important and decisive moments. Very early days still, but all those ingredients hold the potential for a cult hero.’

TIF Thoughts on Giakoumakis…

Celtic’s Greek striker was one of the club’s more expensive signings over the summer, but he has largely been outshone by Furuhashi, however, with the Bhoys now sitting pretty at the top of the league and still in Europe, Ange Postecoglou will need Giakoumakis to come good in the second half of the season and help share the workload.

It would be a headache that Postecoglou would surely welcome if both Furuhashi and Giakoumakis could push each other for a starting role in the final stages of this season, but it’s all about consistency for the 27-year-old if he is to become a cult hero, as working hard and running about only goes so far if you’re a striker.
