Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could be set to unleash youngster Johnny Kenny in the next few games.

Celtic are on a roll right now in the Scottish Premiership, having picked up nine wins in their last 10 games, including an emphatic victory over their Glasgow rivals. They are building up quite the head of steam as we approach the business end of the season.

However, there are still a few issues within the squad, namely keeping players healthy and ready for the rest of the campaign. Speaking to Celtic TV yesterday (quoted by The Daily Record), the Australian manager provided an update on a number of players’ fitness issues.

He went on to hint at a possible run in the side for youngster Kenny, stating: “Young Johnny Kenny is getting to a space where he can train with us. And it’s going to be important, we’re still in three competitions. We want to do well in all three and we’re going to need a strong squad to get there.”

So what could a run in the side mean for Kenny and Celtic?

Which season did Roy Keane join the Hoops?

It seems by Postecoglou’s comments that he is looking to start bleeding Kenny into the side in the coming weeks as he tries to handle fighting on multiple fronts.

With Celtic still in the Scottish FA Cup as well as the Europa Conference League, the fixtures could very well start piling up very soon, and they are going to need all the bodies that they can to get through it.

But not only will Kenny playing have an impact on the squad right now, but it could also aid his development to help them in the long run. Having only joined the club in January on a five-year deal, the fact that Postecoglou is hinting that he wants to use him so soon is a big indicator of how much faith he has in him.

We’ll just have to wait and see if these words turn into actions and how much of an impact Kenny will have if indeed he gets some minutes under his belt.

However, minutes for Kenny could mean a lack of them for Celtic’s Greek forward Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Having signed for the club this past summer and arrived with a rather big reputation following his impressive season with VVV Venlo, in which he scored 29 goals in 33 games, he hasn’t exactly carried that form over to Celtic Park, with just three goals in his 14 games so far.

But the fact that Postecoglou is hinting at minutes for Kenny might mean that he is starting to lose faith in the Greek, so hopefully he can start to prove himself in training and in the games coming up if he gets the chance. Otherwise, it might be an indicator that his time at the club might not have long to go.
