Express and Star writer Liam Keen has claimed that someone at Match of the Day ‘dropped a clanger’ after the show named former player Vitinha in the latest Wolves squad.

In their last Premier League outing, Bruno Lage’s men claimed an impressive 2-0 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur thanks to first-half goals from Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker.

No doubt delighted with the result, many Wolves fans would have likely tuned in to BBC’s Match of the Day 2 to watch the highlights. However, eagle-eyed viewer Jonathan Taylor noticed that Portuguese midfielder Vitinha was listed among the substitutes in the show’s lineup graphic.

The 22-year-old has spent time at Wolves, but not since last season while on loan with the club. Over the summer, he returned to parent club Porto and has certainly played no part in any Premier League matches since.

January signing Chiquinho was the player missing from the graphic, with the Portuguese winger taking his compatriot’s squad number at Molineux.

Spotting the mistake, Keen took to Twitter to write: “Someone at MOTD has dropped a clanger.”

TIF Thoughts on Vitinha and Wolves…

That win leaves Wolves in a pretty impressive league position after 23 games played. Indeed, the club now sit in 7th place on 37 points and are just four points from West Ham United in fourth – they also have two games in hand on the Hammers.

It certainly would be a remarkable achievement if Lage’s men could make the Champions League places by the end of the season. Of course, if they do, they will have to manage it without Vitinha.

The 22-year-old played 22 times for Wolves during his loan, scoring once and also assisting once. This term, however, he has played 28 times for Porto in all competitions as a key player within their side.
