Presenter ExWHUemployee has revealed West Ham United have an interest in signing left-sided defender Levi Colwill.

Despite not buying anyone in the past January transfer market, it’s no secret that the Hammers were on the lookout for a new centre-back, with a number of names being linked with the club at various times.

And now, with a mind to perhaps making a move for someone in the summer, Ex has claimed the club may try and sign Colwill, who is currently on loan with Championship side Huddersfield Town – though his parent club is Chelsea.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, he said: “A guy at Huddersfield, who is on loan to Huddersfield as well, called Levi Colwill.

“He is a centre-back, he’s a left-sided centre-back, so is obviously someone in a specific position that we really want.

“He’s on loan from Chelsea, so whether Chelsea would be prepared to sell him, I don’t know.”

TIF Thoughts on Levi Colwill and West Ham…

This season, Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, and Angelo Ogbonna have been the regularly relied-upon options in the heart of David Moyes’ defence. However, with plenty of doubt surrounding Zouma for the incident involving his cat, and with Ogbonna still out with a significant injury, it would make sense for the club to look into another option in that part of the pitch.

Should Kurt Zouma play for West Ham again?

While Colwill is yet to play a senior game for Chelsea, he has already played 21 times with the Terriers during his loan spell, despite still only being 18 years old.

That he hasn’t been given a chance in the first team under Thomas Tuchel could mean he may feel opportunities would be easier to come by elsewhere. Though, of course, at such a young age, he may be in no rush to leave Chelsea just yet.

Interestingly, the central defender learned a lot off Thiago Silva when training with him and Chelsea’s first team.

But if West Ham do come in with a formal offer, it would be interesting to see how the player and his parent club react. As Ex says, it’s hard to know if the Blues would do business with a Premier League rival like the Hammers.
