TalkSport pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and his future following comments made by Antonio Conte.

The 28-year-old was subject to arguably the biggest transfer saga of the summer, with his potential move to Manchester City dominating a large part of the transfer market. And even though he remained at the club – indeed, some reports have suggested that he could even sign a new deal – that doesn’t mean his long-term future at the club is secure.

Although, if Spurs boss Conte has anything to say about it, Kane won’t be going anywhere soon.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Spurs’ Premier League game against Burnley (as quoted by The Daily Mail), he stated: “There’s a sporting director in Italy, Corvino. He says you can make mistake about your wife but not about the striker or the goalkeeper. This is the best quote to understand football, to build a team. We’re talking about two important players with good experience.”

Speaking on TalkSport, Agbonlahor claimed that Kane wouldn’t want to look back on his career with regret over the fact he didn’t win a trophy, and he ultimately felt that despite Conte’s comments, the striker would ultimately leave the club this summer.

He said: “He won’t want to look back in 15 years, ‘I didn’t win anything’. He’s going to want to win the Premier League. A player like him should be winning the Champions League, should be winning things with England. So I think, as much as Conte’s going to want to keep him, I still think he’s going to want to leave in the summer.”

Was it right for Spurs to keep Harry Kane this summer?

It certainly is going to be an interesting summer for Kane, especially if City decide to reignite their pursuit of him once again.

Arguably the most important part of this will be the Conte factor, with the Italian’s arrival seeing the England captain improve at times this season. If the club can keep taking steps forward between now and the end of the season under Conte, it might give Kane enough of a reason to stick around.

If Conte doesn’t do enough to convince Kane that the club are going in the right direction, then as Agbonlahor hints, it may well be that Kane will try to force a move out of the club that can help him achieve what he wants in his career, which as he has expressed before, involves winning trophies.
