ExWHUemployee has been discussing Alex Kral and his future at West Ham United following the January transfer window.

David Moyes’ men didn’t make any moves in the January transfer windowat least not in the first team, anyway. However, just because the window is now closed, doesn’t mean that there can’t still be some form of movement at the London Stadium.

Which defender born in 1985 used to play for West Ham's academy?

Reports in the Russian press in recent weeks had suggested that Kral, who has only made five appearances so far during his loan spell from Russian side Spartak Moscow, could be recalled by his parent club due to his lack of playing time.

However, writing in a transfer update on his Patreon page, Ex claimed that there has been no contact regarding a possible move back to Russia, and that it was expected Kral would stay in east London for the remainder of the season.

He wrote: There was talk that Czech midfielder Alex Kral was going to be recalled from his loan spell by his parent club but so far there has been no contact, so he looks like he will remain at West Ham.”

Will West Ham's lack of transfers cost them top six?

It should be pointed out that the window for the Russian transfer market does not shut until 22nd February, so that is why there is still the possibility of the 23-year-old leaving even though the window for English clubs is now closed.

Meanwhile, this might not be good news for Kral, as barring something drastic in terms of injuries or suspensions, it doesn’t look as if he’s going to be getting any minutes for West Ham any time soon based on how he has been used so far this season.

With just four midfielders that can play in the middle of the park, there is a delicate balance that needs to be in place, because all it will take is for an injury crisis to hit and all of a sudden, they might need him to be thrown into the mix for a few games.

It’s very much a case of having him and not needing him, rather than needing him and not having him, and given how West Ham could be fighting on multiple fronts come the end of the season, it’s good to have the bodies in reserve just in case.
