Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has heaped rather high praise on Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero following their victory in the FA Cup.

Antonio Conte’s men are through to the fifth round of the competition following a 3-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. Two goals from Harry Kane and an own goal from the visitors’ Solly March were enough to see them through to the next round, where they will face Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

But whilst Spurs were pretty effective up front with their goals, they were also helped out by the efforts of those at the back, with Romero in particular playing his part in proceedings.

He completed a staggering 97% of his passes, completed both of his two dribbles, won all of his four tackle attempts, made five clearances and made two interceptions on his way to a 7.41/10 match rating – the second-highest of all Spurs players on the day (as per WhoScored).

Thomas took to Twitter to express his views on Romero, as well as other Spurs players, and compared the Argentinian to a Rolls Royce as a result of his playing style:

Speaking before the game on Twitter, Thomas had hinted that Romero’s return to the side – with the defender having missed a large part of Conte’s time at the club – would be ‘like a new signing’, and it certainly seems as if that bounce was present for the Argentine at the weekend.

You just have to hope that he’s able to keep up these performances moving forward for the club for the rest of the season.

Whether that be in the FA Cup as Tottenham look to end their long trophy drought, or in the league with the club looking to secure Champions League football once again, his performances could well be critical in making sure that they have a successful end to the season.
