Glen Hoddle was the co-commentator for Spurs’ clash with Leeds United, and he noticed the clear tactical change that Antonio Conte made on the day.

Spurs have struggled at the back this season with Emerson Royal and Davinson Sanchez being harshly criticised for their displays.

However, this afternoon against Leeds, the Whites kept a clean sheet and the duo of Cristian Romero and Ben Davies brought something new with the way they played.

“I’ve seen one thing there that’s slightly different. Davies and Romero have come out, and they’re prepared to run with the ball into midfield and go all the way. So early in the game, that’s so unlike Tottenham. The center-backs are coming out and being aggressive.” Hoddle commented.

TIF Thoughts on Hoddle’s comments about the Spurs defence…

Spurs have improved defensively this season under Conte, and the return of Romero in recent weeks has been a huge boost for the Italian as he is improving the side’s backline, with today’s clean sheet against Leeds.

Ben Davies is naturally a left-back, so will have attacking capabilities as well. So, by playing him in the back-three means he can drive out the back with the ball well and put pressure on the opposing side’s midfield from the defence.

This could be a turn of events for Spurs if Davies and Romero can continue to produce this impressive form as a duo at the back, as Spurs look to push on for a top-four finish.
