Tottenham Hotspurs caused a shock upset, downing Manchester City three goals to two in their own backyard.

The shock comes mainly from the contrasting forms of the two teams with Pep Guardiola’s side having looked to be running away with the title and Spurs being on a run of three consecutive defeats.

Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring after Harry Kane set the attack off, before Ilkay Gundogan levelled before the break. Kane then scored before seeing a second for himself chalked off for offside. Riyad Mahrez converted a 92nd minute penalty to make it 2-2 before Kane popped up three minutes later to bag maximum points.

Will Spurs make the top four?

Talking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher heaped praise on Harry Kane, saying: “That was one of the best performances I’ve seen this season, it really was. It was a privilege to watch. What made it so special was that Kane didn’t get a lot of the ball, but when it came into him, everything he did was pure class. Kane is one of the best passers of the ball in the Premier League, he’s not far behind De Bruyne.”

The result has huge implications in the race for the top four as well as the title race. After the unlikely win, Spurs are back to just four points off fourth placed Manchester United, but have two games in hand.

The big hurdle at the moment is seeing Arsenal three points clear on the same amount of games. So Spurs will be reliant on others slipping up but, they have given themselves a boost in their top four push.

A huge positive for Antonio Conte will be to see Kane back to his best after a difficult season, he took his tally to seven goals with his brace, but that is still way below his usual standard.
