Newcastle United’s Joe Willock was singled out for praise by Joe Cole at half-time of the Premier League clash with West Ham United in the capital.

It was a decent day for Newcastle, who secured a 1-1 draw at West Ham in a hard fought clash. Craig Dawson broke free from a set piece to nod home a free header after making the Magpies’ defence look silly.

Has Willock been worth the money?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Joe Willock levelled the scores in first half stoppage time with a smart flick back across goal which beat Lukasz Fabianski via the far post.

At half time, the BT Sport studio analysed the opening 45, with  Cole talking about the goal scored by Willock: “If Dennis Bergkamp did this we’re all raving.”

That’s some high praise from the former West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool man, comparing him to one of the Arsenal Invincibles. It was certainly a smart finish from Willock to secure a point to take back to Tyneside.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The result now leaves Newcastle still just the one spot above the bottom three which is huge after stretching the cushion to five points. It now leaves survival still firmly in Newcastle’s hands – that’s something you wouldn’t have thought about saying a month or so ago!

It’s a huge boost for Newcastle to gain a point from being behind without key players who were sidelined such as Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin.
