Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his latest Here We Go podcast to discuss the future of Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spurs striker was believed to be hoping for a move away from the north London club last summer, with Manchester City said to be his preferred landing spot.

Do you think Kane will sign a new deal?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, Romano believes the England captain’s stance on an exit in the summer may have changed following the arrival of Antonio Conte.

Over the summer, Nuno Espirito Santo was announced as Tottenham’s permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho, however, Conte was appointed just months later.

And under the Italian, the striker’s form has dramatically improved, with four goals and an assist in his last six Premier League games (via Transfermarkt).

Romano delivered the latest on Kane’s future at the club, saying: “What Harry Kane loves of Antonio Conte is how he’s changed the mentality in the dressing room. When you have a draw or you’re losing a game, it’s like the end of the world for Antonio – so this is what Harry Kane wanted.

“Now, of course, let me clarify also on the contract, because many Tottenham fans are asking: what happens with the new contract for Harry Kane? From what I’m told, it’s not something to be discussed in February or in March. So it’s going to take time to see if Harry Kane will sign a deal with Tottenham, when, how long it will be. So it’s going to take time.

“But we can say that the situation is completely different compared to eight months ago, so good news for Tottenham fans.”

TIF Thoughts on Kane’s future…

Now Kane is looking back to his best under Conte, with another two goals on the weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion, we think Spurs fans will be hoping to see the 28-year-old sign a new deal.

It was a difficult start to the campaign for Kane, with just one league goal until mid-December, however, the influence of the Italian manager seems to be paying off.

And with Kane delighted with Conte being at the club, perhaps the key to keeping Kane in north London is keeping Conte happy in his role at Spurs.

The Italian has spoken of his concerns about the mistakes previously made by Spurs in the transfer window, so we feel this summer could be a huge window for the Liliywhites.

And if Manchester City are to target Erling Haaland as reports suggest, perhaps their interest in Kane – who will be 29 in the summer – will have drifted, too.
