Tottenham Hotspur ended a streak of three consecutive losses by completing the league double over defending champions Manchester City thanks to a top draw Harry Kane performance.

It was an interesting week off the pitch, with some comments made by Antonio Conte leading to questions about his long term future at the club, questioning the recruitment from Daniel Levy and co as well as the mentality of the squad.

Do you expect Levy to change with Conte at Spurs?

Jamie Carragher appeared to have those quotes in mind when talking on Sky Sports after their win over Manchester City, going on to claim: “I was surprised he took the Spurs job, only because they’re not ready to win right now. So if Conte is to stay at Spurs and make it successful, it’s going to have to be a longer job than he’s had elsewhere.”

“It’s a different remit, so if he gets behind the longer-term project and gets the funds, he can take Tottenham back to being a major force, or certainly where they were under Mauricio Pochettino.”

You can see where Carragher is coming from, it is a different project to those he’s taken on in the past. This is backed up when the reasons for his Inter exit are considered.

How many times did Mido score for Spurs in the 2006/07 season?

The club had to cut costs and he was not willing to operate on a budget with a weakened squad after their Serie A triumph.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom though from Carragher, who claimed Conte would be able to take Spurs back to where they were under Mauricio Pochettino.

You’d feel Champions League qualification is paramount to any future success under Conte, but they have put themselves in a much better position to do so after their win on Saturday evening.
