Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has revealed the Spurs players have advised Antonio Conte to provide Joe Rodon with an opportunity in the side.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, the Spurs reporter believes there is hope from within Hotspur Way of seeing Rodon given a chance under the Italian.

Would you start Rodon on the weekend?

The Welsh centre-back has had a miserable time in north London since arriving in the summer of 2020, having played just 22 times across all competitions.

This season alone, the 24-year-old has only featured for 78 minutes in the Premier League, with his only appearance coming back in September in the defeat to Crystal Palace.

And with Spurs having conceded five goals at home in the past week against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Gold revealed what he had heard from inside Hotspur Way.

He said: “I am told that some of the senior players within the squad have been pushing his claims – kind of saying to coaching staff that he probably, you know, he does deserve to have a chance.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Rodon’s future…

We think the Welshman has been incredibly unlucky not to have been given more opportunities in the Spurs side as of late.

Conte’s arrival at Tottenham saw an initial boost to the defence with five clean sheets in his opening eight league games, however, that form has certainly fallen away since the turn of the year (via Transfermarkt).

That has coincided with the absence of Eric Dier through injury, and Conte has still not put his trust in Rodon, despite failing to keep a clean sheet since New Year’s Day.

A number of clubs were believed to be interested in the defender over the January window, and we think if his opportunities do not improve before the end of the season, he should be forcing an exit in the summer.
