France international Jules Kounde was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer, but no deal could be agreed between the two clubs.

According to The Athletic, Kounde reached an ‘agreement’ to join Spurs last summer, but the 23-year-old had ‘rejected’ the move as he would prefer to play Champions League football.

Kounde has featured 19 times for Sevilla in the La Liga this campaign and also five times in the Champions League, according to Transfermarkt.

Now, reports from Spain claim that the north London side remain interested in signing the Frenchman this summer.

Cristian Romero and Jules Kounde partnership?

Cristian Romero has seen his career at Spurs disrupted due to injury but has huge potential as a player after signing from Atlanta for £42.5million.

With Davinson Sanchez’ poor form in the Premier League this season, Spurs are in desperate need of a defensive partner for new signing Romero, and Kounde could be the perfect fit.

At just 23-years-old Kounde is the same age as Romero, meaning they both still have great potential, despite already proving their worth as individuals as they already have Champions League experience.

Jules Kounde is just 5 ft 10 but epitomises the modern-day centre half with his ability to win his battles without lunging into tackles and committing fouls, and could therefore make a good fit in Spurs’ back three next to Romero.

It would certainly rank as being up there as one of Fabio Paratici’s best signings at Spurs.

Replacement for Davinson Sanchez?

Davinson Sanchez has come under immense scrutiny at times this season, and was described as ‘scandalously poor’ by Simon Jordan on talkSPORT.

With Antonio Conte’s reluctance to play Wales international Joe Rodon, it may be time to replace Sanchez, and Kounde could be the perfect replacement for the Colombian.

Sanchez has featured 16 times in the Premier League this season, but this is largely down to the lack of depth, and not being able to use anyone else in that position.

After the 25-year-old’s recent poor form it may be time for Conte to replace him, and with it being reported that Emerson Royal is set to be replaced in the summer by the Italian, he seemingly isn’t scared to get rid of some of the dead wood.

Kounde is 23-years-old and has Champions League experience this season, whilst Sanchez has experienced nothing but poor critics, and it would certainly be an upgrade if Kounde was to replace him.

The £54m-rated star would be a massive upgrade on a “liability” like the £27m-rated Sanchez.
