Spurs have been linked with Middlesbrough full-back Djed Spence, and Conte reportedly had two bids for the 21-year-old turned down in January.
According to sports journalist Pete O’Rourke, Spurs have shown interest in both Tariq Lamptey and Spence but the latter would be a more likely deal for Conte as he searches for a new right wing-back.
O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT, ” Djed Spence might be easier to get than Lamptey. Brighton will be looking for a big price tag for his signature I think, while Middlesbrough would be more willing to let Spence go.”
Emerson Royal replacement?
Conte is reportedly unhappy with former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santos’ summer signing Emerson Royal and is keen to replace him.
Emerson has had a tough start to life in England and was slandered for a particularly poor performance against Southampton on Wednesday night.
Although the wing-back is just 23-years-old and still learning his trade in a new country, Conte has seemingly had enough and Spence could act as a suitable replacement.
Spence has impressed on loan with Nottingham Forest this campaign in the Championship and produced a notably good performance against Spurs’ fierce rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup, proving he can cut it against those at the top level.
Spence is a young and energetic full-back whose energy to bomb up and down the right flank will suit the way that Conte wants to play, therefore making a solid replacement for Emerson.
Better supply to Kane?
In Conte’s infamous three at the back formation, a large amount of the supply to the front men comes from the attacking wing-backs. And with the current crop of Spurs players occupying the role on the rights failure to adapt to the position, star man Harry Kane has seen his chances limited.
The 6 foot Spence has primarily played as a full-back but has also featured further up the pitch as a right midfielder, therefore his attacking capabilities are equally as good as his defensive.
Kane has scored just fiveĀ goals this season due to the lack of chances created. However, Conte sides in the past leave the strikers with an abundance of chances, formed largely from the wing-backs. So, by bringing in Spence, Kane could see his goals rapidly increase.
