Newcastle United: Chris Waugh on Kieran Trippier’s effect off the pitch

Chris Waugh has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about the role Kieran Trippier is playing behind the scenes at Newcastle United.

Trippier was the first signing of a new era on Tyneside as PIF managed to land the full-back early on in the transfer window last month with his impact clear to see as the Magpies are unbeaten in the league since he’s arrived.

Will Trippier start on Sunday?

However, it appears that Trippier is doing a lot more than just impacting things on the pitch for Newcastle as Ryan Fraser spoke during an interview about how good the new signing has been in the dressing room with everyone and that he refers to him as a ‘monster’.

Waugh’s highlighted that Trippier certainly is doing a lot more being the scenes work within the Newcastle squad to help them improve.

“Actually, Ryan Fraser in his club interview mentions the physical height of the two of them, but he refers to the fact that he calls Kieran Trippier a monster, in terms of what he brings to the team.

“You can see how genuine Fraser is when he’s talking about the impact that Trippier has had behind the scenes as well. So it’s not just what we see on the pitch, it’s also what he’s brought in and around behind the scenes at the club has been massive for everyone.”

TIF Thoughts on Trippier…

The full-back has been a mainstay under Eddie Howe but now could be set for some time on the sidelines with the manager confirming that Trippier would be a late call as to whether or not he’s fit enough to play on Sunday after coming off with an injury on Tuesday evening.

Since Trippier has joined the Magpies they’ve not conceded more than one goal in a single game, but his impact doesn’t stop there as he’s got the third-best goal-creating actions per 90 minutes and fifth for shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (FBRef), so his teammates will see the impact he’s made at both ends of the pitch and realise they should be listening and taking note of what he says and does.
