Dan Kilpatrick has been speaking on Talking Tottenham about what the future holds for Bryan Gil at Spurs.

The Spaniard was only signed in the summer by Fabio Paratici and then-manager Nuno Espirito Santo, however, after zero league starts and one assist across all competitions, he was shipped back out to La Liga to try and regain some form and confidence.

Will Spurs make the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

When Gil was sent out on loan last month, Football.London reported that this didn’t signal a premature end for Gil and that the club saw him as part of their long-term plans for the future, though that doesn’t add up given Antonio Conte handed him two minutes of football in the last three league matches.

Perhaps as a result of this, Kilpatrick is unsure whether or not Gil does actually have a future at Tottenham under Conte.

He said: “I don’t know about Gil, the kind of noises coming out of the club were that he was still a player with a long-term future.

“But I think Conte has been pretty clear that, certainly at the moment, he’s not ready for the Premier League – or Conte doesn’t think he’s suitable for the Premier League. So he might come back in a year or two years.”

TIF Thoughts on Gil…

It must’ve been frustrating for Gil to go from playing regular football out in La Liga to never starting a Premier League match and essentially being used as a cup player, but now is his chance to impress and show that he’s not a flop and Spurs were right to bring him in last summer.

Conte appears to rate Gil highly in public, claiming that the Spurs lost ‘four important players‘ during the January transfer window, but if the Spaniard was such a big player for Spurs, then the question has to be asked as to why he was not getting sufficient minutes to prove his worth.
