Journalist Lee Ryder has shown his appraisal towards Joe Willock after he scored his first goal of the season against West Ham at the London Stadium.

West Ham took the lead against the Magpies in the 31st minute when Craig Dawson opened the scoring, but on the brink of half-time, Joe Willock got an equaliser.

Lee Ryder had kind words to describe the 22-year-old in his player ratings for Chronicle Live, ‘Joe Willock 9/10, a tireless shift and netted the equaliser. So close to grabbing a second.’

Willock has struggled to repeat his goal scoring form this campaign, after last season’s goal scoring heroics whilst on loan with the Magpies earned him a permanent move to St James’s Park.

The 22-year-old scored eight goals last campaign, and was a fans favourite for the Newcastle fans and they were delighted when the club signed him on a permanent deal from Newcastle.

There were fears that he was returning to his Arsenal form this season, after he failed to score or register an assist until his strike against West Ham, which topped off a fine display from the former Gunner.

The £25m-rated youngster’s excellent performance against the Hammers coincides with the revival of the Magpies after an impressive January transfer window has seen Eddie Howe’s side’s form take a turn for the better.
