Newcastle United will reignite their interest in Sven Botman in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano on his latest Here We Go podcast

The Toon fell short of Lille’s valuation of their young centre-back in January, with the Ligue 1 side eventually cutting off any possibility of a move to Tyneside.

Having then looked to Sevilla’s Diego Carlos as a possible option and seen a potential deal fall flat there, too, the Magpies sealed the services of Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite having failed to get his move away, Botman’s impressive form for Lille has continued, with two goals for the Ligue 1 side since the rumours emerged in January.

Eddie Howe’s side have only conceded one goal in their last two Premier League games, however, if they are to survive the drop, Romano believes they’ll look to bring in Botman.

He said: “Botman will still be a target in the summer, AC Milan and Newcastle are really focused on this player, Sven Botman, so will be a huge one to watch in the summer.

“Also because as revealed on the Deadline Day podcast we did, Newcastle, in the final four or five days of the window, they were prepared to offer €50m to Lille and he was still not for sale.

“So let’s see what happens in summer, but Botman will be a name for Newcastle and for AC Milan.”

TIF Thoughts on Sven Botman to NUFC…

During the January transfer window, it was claimed the Dutch defender was willing to leave Lille for the Tyneside club, but the deal fell short on the French club’s side.

It has since been suggested by Lille that Botman could leave in the summer, but we think this will potentially make Newcastle’s pursuit more difficult.

If Lille are looking to offload Botman in the summer, it could create a bidding frenzy in which the Toon would surely fancy their chances, however, with clubs like Milan and Liverpool linked, he could prefer other options away from Tyneside.
