Football journalist Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest edition of Touchline Talk to discuss Brendan Rodgers’ future at Leicester City.

There has been some speculation suggesting the Northern Irishman may be under pressure as a result of the Foxes’ recent poor form.

Leicester’s underwhelming season so far was added to at the weekend after a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

However, Jones does not believe the 49-year-old’s job at the King Power Stadium is under any immediate threat despite their sub-par 2021/22 campaign so far.

The Foxes have a huge challenge ahead of them on Thursday night with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, and speaking ahead of the game, Jones had the following to say on Rodgers’ future:

“I haven’t heard anything that he’s under imminent threat. I don’t believe that that is the case from people I’ve spoken to, but at the same time, this is Leicester and they do make big decisions.

“And then they’re not afraid to do that. I mean, [Claudio] Ranieri was sacked less than a year after he won them the Premier League. And I think that that’s a clear sign that if the owners don’t feel that they’re on the right track still, they’re not afraid to change things.”

TIF Thoughts on Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City future…

It has certainly been a difficult campaign for the Foxes so far, however, Rodgers has had an impressive spell at the club to date, with their FA Cup triumph in the summer being the main highlight.

There is still an outside chance of the Foxes challenging for a place in the Europa Conference League, however, it would take a huge change in form for that to come to fruition.

And we feel he has earned the opportunity – with his success last season – to rectify a poor campaign in the summer transfer window if things are not to improve over the coming months of the season.
