Phil Hay has dropped an exciting update on contract talks between Leeds United and Raphinha.

Overall, it’s been a stunning season for Leeds United’s silky winger, who has registered eight goals and two assists in the Premier League. However, it’s not seemingly something that will continue, as last week, Beren Cross from Leeds Live scored him a 3/10 against Everton after he was hooked off at half time by Marcelo Bielsa.

Should Leeds replace Bielsa?

The form Raphinha’s been in has seen him earn his first caps for Brazil, however, Leeds’ star player doing well is not all good, as it’s seen teams such as West Ham United and Bayern Munich credited with an interest in him, although Hay has dropped some encouraging news when it comes to a new contract.

He claimed on The Phil Hay Show that Raphinha is pleased with the wage offered by Leeds in a new proposed deal.

Hay said: “I think it’s quite likely that any deal would have to include a release clause, because that tends to be how it is with players of that ilk, but from what I can understand, [he’s] pretty happy with the wage offer that’s been made.”

TIF Thoughts on Raphinha…

It’s no surprise that Leeds have seemingly offered a healthy upgrade on Raphinha’s current wage, as without him, they would be in serious trouble this season when it comes to relegation. The club’s next closest goalscorers to him are Daniel James and Jack Harrison with four goals, while when it comes to shot-creating actions, he’s currently registered 80 – the closest person to him is Mateusz Klich, who’s only managed 52 (as per FBRef).

The club will know they need to tie down Raphinha to a longer-term contract if they want to get the most amount of money for him should a bigger club look to sign him, because this time next year, he will have less than 18 months on his current deal.
