Phil Hay has been speaking about how he fully expects Adam Forshaw to start for Leeds United this weekend.

Leeds fell to an extremely disappointing and embarrassing defeat last weekend in the Premier League, which saw Marcelo Bielsa start Mateusz Klich ahead of Adam Forshaw in the centre of midfield.

Should Forshaw start this weekend?

Following that defeat, Leeds have been dragged right back into a relegation scrap, sitting just six points above the bottom three as they prepare to welcome Manchester United to Elland Road this weekend, which will certainly not be an easy fixture given the results between the two sides since Leeds were promoted back into the Premier League – the Whites yet to beat their rivals and have conceded 11 goals in three matches.

Hay has expressed his expectation over Forshaw starting this weekend for Leeds while speaking on The Phil Hay Show.

“Forshaw has to start, for me. I’m pretty sure he will, and particularly after Bielsa admitted that that was a mistake [not to start him] last weekend.”

TIF Thoughts on Adam Forshaw starting for Leeds United…

The reasoning behind leaving Forshaw, who is valued at £1.8 million (as per Transfermarkt), out against Everton is very unclear, especially considering that Bielsa even admitted during his post-match press conference that he was asking Mateusz Klich to do roles and tasks he’s not used to or comfortable doing.

It’s clear that Forshaw brings a much more defensive-minded approach to the game for Leeds, having made the second-most tackles in the midfield area of the pitch (as per FBRef), which will certainly be needed against a Man United side who are coming off the back of their first win since 21st January.
