Tony Scott has been speaking about Jean-Philippe Gbamin on the All Together Now podcast.

The Ivory Coast international has had a rotten time since joining Everton for £25 million in 2019, having picked up more injuries than times starts for the first team, but he could now get his career back on track after securing a loan move to CSKA Moscow.

Is Gbamin Everton's worst-ever signing?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Gbamin’s Everton career was almost doomed from the beginning when he picked up an injury after just two appearances that kept him out for 229 days, and clearly, Frank Lampard saw no reason to keep him around, allowing him to jet off to Russia for the remainder of the season.

Scott believes this means that Gbamin’s time at Everton is up.

“He’s not coming back, and again, if he does come back, he’s got no future at Everton. We’ve seen he’s just an injury-prone midfielder that just doesn’t look up to playing football in the Premier League, he was just miles off it.”

TIF Thoughts on Gbamin…

It was clear what both parties required with Gbamin departing, even if it’s just until the summer when he can assess what is best for him and his body, which could see him depart for a league that’s a lot less intense than the Premier League. However, Everton surely must know they will not be recouping anything near what they paid for him a few years ago.

Prior to joining Everton, Gbamin was someone that had very rarely suffered from injuries having played at least 25 games in each of his previous six league campaigns, which highlights that this was a case of awful timing or that he clearly isn’t suited to the top flight of English football.
