New Everton manager Frank Lampard has outlined his ‘priorities’ at the club during his first interview, stating he wants to improve player confidence, amongst other things.

After one win in 13 games, ex-manager Rafael Benitez was fired and the former Chelsea man was brought in to help guide the club back up the Premier League table.

While speaking in his first full interview as Toffees’ boss with the club’s official media channel, Lampard outlined that he felt confidence, style of play and engagement with fans were all areas that he felt needed to be built up.

He explained: “In terms of my idea on the squad, I have things that I’ve seen from the outside that will be my priorities to try to improve – firstly, to get results, but also to try to improve confidence, try and improve the way we plan, try and engage with the fans.”

TIF thoughts on Frank Lampard and Everton…

Of course, one issue with the ownership at Everton has been the engagement with fans, with Bill Kenwright coming under fire at Goodison Park earlier on this season as certain fans demanded answers. So the fact that Lampard is already looking to address this point is surely already a step in the right direction.

As much as he will be keen to make good on his promise, Lampard will also likely be happy to have a few new faces in his squad to work with as well.

Indeed, the late acquisitions of Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek should provide him with some interesting options in the middle of the park. The likes of other new men Vitaliy Mykolenko, Nathan Patterson, and Anwar El Ghazi could all also be a boost.

Still, there is plenty of work to do at the club, with Benitez leaving them only four points above the relegation zone and in danger of being pulled into a scrap to avoid the drop.
