ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United could be interested in signing Slovakian defender David Hancko.

With the Premier League club currently pushing for European football next season – and as senior centre-back option Angelo Ogbonna is still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury – it would make sense for David Moyes to target some defensive-minded reinforcements this winter.

And it looks as though the club have their eye on a ‘new’ option. Discussing possible signings on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex namechecked Hancko as one man who would be considered as a signing in the near future.

He said: “A new name that I’ve not mentioned before, but someone who could possibly be considered, is David Hancko of Sparta Prague.

“Again, [a Daniel] Kretinsky link there. He’s not actually Czech, he’s Slovakian. He can play left-back and the left side of centre-back. So there’s him.

TIF Thoughts on David Hancko and West Ham United…

While discussing the player, Ex also mentions the link of Daniel Kretinsky as possibly playing a role in the deal. The Czech businessman recently purchased a 27% stake in West Ham – becoming the club’s second-largest shareholder in a deal worth roughly £180m-200m.

What makes him a relevant name in this discussion is the fact that he also co-owns Sparta Prague, and so would naturally be able to play a role in helping the two clubs if they wanted to negotiate a deal.

Still being just 24 years of age, Hancko may well have his best years ahead of him. Even so, he looks to be a good prospect already.

Indeed, this term, operating as either a left-back or a centre-back, he has scored six times and added a further four assists in 27 matches across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). Perhaps that versatility will make him a target for Moyes in the final week of the current transfer window.
