Football journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed a late move from Newcastle United for Jesse Lingard cannot be ruled out in the dying hours of the transfer window.

The Toon have been linked to the Manchester United ace this month, with his future being questioned amid his contract situation.

Would you want to see Lingard sign today?

No

And despite the two clubs reportedly being unable to find an agreement on a fee for a potential loan deal until the end of the 2021/22 campaign, Taylor has insisted not to rule out a possible move.

Lingard has also attracted interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, and it is believed he is looking for a possible loan move this month ahead of becoming a free agent in the summer.

With the clock ticking down on the Toon to finalise any potential further deals, Taylor provided the following claim on a potential switch to Tyneside for Lingard:

“Jesse Lingard – do not rule out a late move for Lingard materialising. He’s obviously out of contract in six months’ time, he may not play at Man United. Obviously, [Donny] Van de Beek [is] going and [Mason] Greenwood’s situation may now sort of see him get a bit more minutes.

“But Lingard’s out of contract in six months, and at the moment, he’s not going to sign a new deal. So, if Newcastle pay a reasonable figure – not the £12m that was being quoted to them by United – a deal could probably be easily arranged.”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard to NUFC…

We have been impressed with Newcastle’s business this month already, with more arrivals expected to arrive in the final hours before today’s deadline.

The arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes feel like big strides towards Premier League survival and beyond. And potentially recruiting Lingard would feel like another big addition to a struggling Newcastle side.

With Lingard struggling for game time at Old Trafford this season, we feel he should be pushing for a late move today to ensure some regular football ahead of becoming a free agent in the summer.
